He set up his own Azienda in 2010 before retiring from Gaja in 2014 to focus on this label full time with his children Enrico and Silvia. The \u003cb\u003epedigree of his experience was immediately apparent\u003c\/b\u003e, especially in the quality of his single cru wines.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn terms of winemaking, their focus is all about maintaining the health of the vines and celebrating the terroir of the vineyards. This means they try to take as delicate a touch in the winery as possible. As \u003cb\u003eEnrico\u003c\/b\u003e, Guido's son, puts it so eloquently, '\u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003eninety-nine percent of the work is done in the vineyards. Our job in the cellar is not to f*%k it up'\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e. The estate produces stylish, forward wines that are approachable in their youth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"\u003eThe \u003cb\u003efirst vintage\u003c\/b\u003e of this single-vineyard wine from Guido and Silvia, \u003cb\u003eMarcorino \u003c\/b\u003eis a \u003cb\u003esuperb old-vine site\u003c\/b\u003e, just above the \u003cb\u003eBruno Giacosa winery\u003c\/b\u003e on the edge of the town of Neive. Their \u003cb\u003etiny 0.42 hectares\u003c\/b\u003e of vines have a South West exposure and an interesting soil blend. While it is mainly clay and limestone, there is sand and light marl which give this Nebbiolo a sense of \u003cb\u003esoftness\u003c\/b\u003e and \u003cb\u003elightness\u003c\/b\u003e. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cb\u003eVinous's Antonio Galloni\u003c\/b\u003e was clearly\u003cb\u003e impressed \u003c\/b\u003ewith this debut vintage. Awarding it 94 points, he declared this \u003cb\u003e2019 Marcorino\u003c\/b\u003e to be a \u003cb\u003e\"\u003ci\u003esuperb\"\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003ci\u003e release.\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"\u003e\u003ci\u003e\"The 2019 Barbaresco Marcorino is another new wine in this range from Rivella. Dark, sensual and ample in feel, the 2019 offers up an exciting mélange of dark fruit intermingled with scents of licorice, camphor, tobacco and menthol that add nuance. Give the potent tannins time to soften.
