Cote Rotie Chateau d'Ampuis 2009, E Guigal, 12x750ml
Etienne Guigal founded the now legendary domaine in 1946 and immediately placed his focus on the all but abandoned northern Rhone ‘Grand Cru’ of Cote-Rotie. Starting off with the dense and powerful La Landonne and the silky, elegant La Mouline, in 1985 he introduced La Turque, and thus the ‘Holy Trinity’ of the Northern Rhone was born. Endearingly referred to as the ‘Lalas’, no other set of wines has received more 100 point scores from the Wine Advocate. Up until 2005, La Mouline had nine perfect scores, La Landonne had seven, and La Turque had five. In 2009, all three scored a perfect 100 points from both Robert Parker and Jeb Dunnuck.
