Inglenook is one of the oldest wineries in Rutherford, Napa Valley, having been established in 1871. Gustave Niebaum purchased the estate in the late 1870s as well as an adjoining plot of some 180 hectares, and he continued to expand the holdings right up until Prohibition in 1919, by which time the wines were well known and sought after. The winery sat closed until the Volstead Act of 1933 which ended the era of Prohibition and John Daniel Junior took the reins. He oversaw a number of superb vintages and the 1941 Cabernet Sauvignon was named by Wine Spectator as one of the top 12 Wines of the Century in 1999.

Over a century after its founding, the estate was purchased  1975 by “The Godfather” Director, Francis Ford Coppola. Now over 630 hectares, the estate was named Niebaum-Coppola Estate, as the original purchase did not include the rights to the Inglenook name. The wine which is now the estate’s flagship, Rubicon, was first made in 1978 and released in 1985. A decade later, in 1995, Coppola managed to purchase the rest of the estate, including the rights to the name, and since 2011 the  wines have all been made under the Inglenook label.
 
A Bordeaux blend, made from 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Rubicon has been met with critical acclaim, with its highest ever score on the Wine Advocate, and a perfect 100 points from British-born, Bordeaux-based expert, Jane Anson.
