Domaine Charles Noellat is one of Burgundy’s legendary domaines, established in the late 19th Century by Felix Noellat, and existing for around a century, before it was purchased in 1988 by Lalou Bize-Leroy and renamed Domaine Leroy.
Domaine Charles Noellat was one of the earliest pioneers of estate bottling, starting in the 1930s, when hardly any other domaines were doing so. The domaine’s philosophy favoured a respectful approach to the terroir, always focusing on quality over quantity. Each and every plot was handled individually with huge reverence, listening to the vines, and allowing the terroir to fully express itself.
So whilst Domaine Charles Noellat no longer exists, you may come across the Maison Charles Noellat label, which is a negociant house in Beaune, founded by Charles’ great grandson Stephane in 2013, offering a broad range of Burgundy wines, but the wines from the original domaine, before 1988 are, understandably, increasingly rare, and highly revered by collectors.
Purchased earlier this year in France, in an original case which has somehow disappeared between France and the UK, I am delighted to offer 12 bottles in absolutely pristine condition, ready for immediate delivery
