Very Very Old Port (VVOP) White is an extremely rare Port wine and the latest in a series of limited releases of very fine old-aged Ports. To be considered a VVOP these wines must be over 80 Years of age. This unique blend has been drawn from exceptional lots matured in seasoned oak casks in Taylor’s cellars, with some of the white Ports dating back to 1896.

This rare wine marks the first ever aged white port that the house has produced, along with the first such VVOP released from a leading Port house.

David Guimaraens, the producer’s head winemaker and master blender, explained: “When you’re working with Port wines that have been ageing for decades, you’re making decisions that honour the work of people who are no longer here.

“That’s both a privilege and a tremendous responsibility,” says Guimaraens. “Time has given this wine extraordinary depth while preserving remarkable elegance and freshness. Achieving that balance is what makes wines like this so rare.”

More than an extraordinary wine, Taylor’s VVOP White is, in many ways, a living archive. When many of the wines that make up the blend were first put in cask, there was no electricity across much of the Douro Valley, and grapes were still all trodden by foot in granite lagares. Some of the vineyards from which the wines originated now no longer exist – the space where they were is now occupied by the Douro River.

As appreciation for exceptionally old White Ports continues to grow among collectors and fine wine enthusiasts worldwide, Taylor’s has chosen to unveil one of the House’s rarest and most closely guarded treasures.

Luminous golden orange, amber core, with radiant bronze tones and greenish olive hues on the rim. This isn’t simply an old white Port; this is a living time capsule. Each sip takes you on a journey that only time can bestow, offering quiet grandeur and rarity of taste. Its depth of nose is astounding, long, opulent and poised. A rich scent of dried apricots, almond biscotti, orange zest and wild lavender attack the senses and then finishes with sun drenched jasmine and orange blossom.

On the palate purity and elegance of fruit. Notes of roasted hazelnuts, almonds, tonka beans, blood grapefruit, honeycomb, saffron spice and a background salinity that lingers with delicate finesse. Concentrated to a magical essence, the wine coats the palate and ends with a balanced intensity and delicate finish.

Reflecting the rarity of the wine, Taylor’s commissioned a bespoke crystal decanter developed in partnership with Vista Alegre, one of Portugal’s most distinguished luxury houses. The presentation case has been entirely redesigned for this release.
