Valriz Very Old Tawny Port, 1858, 1x500ml
I am delighted to offer a few bottles of one of the very oldest Ports in the world, with over 165 years of age! Highly scored by Jancis Robinson, this is a unique item that collectors with any interest in very mature drinks should undoubtedly consider. Also on offer is the 1958 Colheita as well as a Very Old White Port (1900) and an Over 40 year-old Tawny.
The 1858 Porto Valriz was produced by Domingos Ayres de Mattos and was kept in the cellars under his home – the Casa de Cima. Domingos’ son Antonio, father of the current owners, was aware of the wine’s potential greatness and decided to leave the family ‘treasure’ to his heirs, and 13 years after his death in 1956, the wine was tasted and believed to not only be of exceptional quality but to still have plenty of life left in it. In 2013 the wines were re-tasted and almost all of it was found to be in perfect condition, so a small quantity was re-bottled and offered for sale.
N.B. This wine is not currently in stock but can be ordered, usually for delivery within a few weeks - please email info@cellarselect.co.uk for availability and lead time, or it will be confirmed after an order is placed.
