2022 Romanee-St-Vivant Grand Cru 3x75 OWC at £7,350 IB (Best market price £2,500 per loose bottle)
“The 2022 Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru is a real head-turner, What a wine! As is so often the case, Romanee Saint Vivant is not an obvious wine, rather it is a Burgundy of detail, of understatement, of total class. The aromatics alone are mesmerizing. Silky tannins wrap around a core of red-toned fruit, mint, white pepper, blood orange and exotic spice. The long resonant finish is impossibly elegant. Haute Couture” Drink 2030-2057 100 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com March 2025
2019 La Tache Grand Cru 1x75 at £5,000 IB “The 2019 La Tâche Grand Cru is sublime. Mingling aromas of wild berries and bergamot with notions of rose petals, exotic spices, violets, clove and cinnamon, it's full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a multidimensional palate of breathtaking plenitude. Elegantly muscular, this is a vibrant, pristinely balanced wine that concludes with a long, resonant finish. More structured and broader shouldered than the ethereal Romanée-Conti itself, this will demand and richly reward bottle age.” Drink 2033-2070 99+ points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate January 2022
2019 Echezeaux Grand Cru 1x75 at £2,500 IB “Deeper pitched than the domaine's Corton, the 2019 Échézeaux Grand Cru exhibits aromas of blackberries, plums, exotic spices, orange rind and rose hips. Full-bodied, rich and ample, its broad, textural attack segues into a deep and concentrated mid-palate and a long, saline finish. This is a sensual, enveloping, elegantly muscular Échézeaux that has fulfilled all the promise it showed in barrel.” Drink 2029-2060 95+ points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate January 2022
2014 Echezeaux Grand Cru 3x75 OWC at £7,500 IB (2 cases available) “Colour is both darker and a little denser than the Corton. The aroma is darker too, more dark-red fruit and more wild. A clear stemmy (but fully ripe) freshness. More immediately aromatic than the Corton but less prettily scented. Firm, compact but supple tannins. More immediate impact on the palate than the Corton and although it is immensely long, it does not linger in quite the same way – leaving an imprint rather than drawing you along by the fingertips. There’s a whiff of smoky oak spice as well. With air, more earthy, more savoury. Tannins give a compact density on the finish. The acidity seems softer than on the Corton but there is no lack of freshness and those accentuate it.” Drink 2029-2050 18.5/20 points, Julia Harding MW, Jancisrobinson.com February 2017
2012 Richebourg Grand Cru 1x75 at £3,600 IB “The Richebourg 2012 was picked September 27-28 at just 19 hectoliters per hectare, one of the lowest yields in this vintage. This has a serious bouquet, reserved at first, more earth than air. Unusual for this cuvee, there is a sense of exoticism here, a Richebourg daring to show a bit of ankle. Blackberry pastille intermingle with wilted violets, and there is a touch of warmth that belies the precocity of the growing season. Leaving it aside for 10 minutes, there are hints of Provençal herbs, broom and even fennel. The palate is medium-bodied and the first thing that strikes you is its backbone. Well, this is Richebourg after all. But there is an arching structure to this wine that is disguised by the silkiness of its texture, plus an almost citrus freshness and brightness on the finish. This is a Richebourg that will make you giddy with pleasure. 634 cases produced.” Drink 2020-2050 97 points, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate February 2015 2009 Corton Grand Cru 1x150 MAGNUM in OWC at £4,200 IB “The 2009 Corton is a showstopper. The huge, boisterous bouquet is the first sign the Corton is just as dazzling from bottle as it was from barrel. Layers of fruit saturate the palate as this flashy, exuberant wine continues to put on weight as it sits in the glass. This is a decidedly opulent Burgundy that pushes the boundaries of what longtime DRC drinkers expect from the winery, but it is a gorgeous, striking wine in its own way. The 2009 is a great first vintage for the Corton.” Drink 2019-2039 95 points, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate April 2012
2001 Romanee-St-Vivant Grand Cru 1x75 at £2,950 IB “The 2001 Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru has quite a deep hue. Intense dark bery on the nose, hints of orange rind and even a faint melted tar scent. This is a surprising showing for the normally transparent Romanee Saint Vivant – this is opaque and surly, yet the tannins are finely hewn. Backward in style, as I commented before, it is doing a delicious impersonation of a Richebourg! I would afford this more time in bottle.” Drink 2025-2045 92 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.com March 2023
