2024 was a tough vintage for many, but for Jane it could have hardly suited her better! A cold, rainy growing season resulting in low natural alcohol and very low yields, it required a lot of work in the cellar, but the results are excellent. Many producers struggled with ripeness in 2024, and their wines are light and lacking in flavour, but Jane Eyre’s 2024s have energy and purity, and whilst they are light and elegant, this is precisely Jane’s style, and what they lack in colour, they make up for in complexity of flavour, gorgeous purity and clarity of origin. Utterly delicious, these are more than worthy of your collection.
Neal Martin wrote on www.vinous.com: “I asked her for five sentences about the vintage. Her reply: “This is not exactly five sentences, but you’re talking to an ex-hairdresser. The insistent rain and cool weather resulted in low yields caused by a combination of poor fruit set and mildew. It felt like the fruit was never going to get ripe and the weather was never going to get better. When we picked, I really thought I was going to have a winery full of unripe fruit, but most of it had gotten over the line. Alcohol was low, in some cases very low, but tannins were ripe. I drastically reduced the percentage of whole bunch I had been using and only purchased one new barrel as I didn’t want the wines to get swamped by oak, especially if the cuvée consisted of two barrels. The aging process and transformation that happens after a year in barrel will never cease to amaze me. In hot years you put them to barrel praying they will somehow slim down, and in leaner years like 2024 and 2017, you hope they will put on some weight…and they do! I personally love the cool years for their transparency. You can see the year and the sites so much more clearly and you find wines of such delicate, ethereal perfume and elegance. They won’t all last for ever and ever, but does it really matter?”
I am pleased to offer a handful of cases of four of her top wines. No Corton Grand Cru was produced this year, so I have a couple of cases of the excellent 2023 available, as well as a small selection of older vintages from stock.
2024 Auxey Duresses Les Crais @ £210 IB per 6x75
"No whole bunch. Two 300-litre used barrels.
Exciting and gentle and looks hugely pleasurable. What fun! This is (reasonably) affordable red burgundy. (JR)"
Drink 2026-2034
17/20 points, Jancis Robinson, January 2026
2024 Cote de Nuits Villages @ £210 IB per 6x75
"Two parcels of old vines, one in each of Corgoloin and Comblanchien. Her own winery in Cissey (ex Dom Charles Alexandre) since 2021.
Pale garnet. Very gentle but with less purity than the Aloxe. Just a little soupy. And chew on the end. (JR)"
Drink 2027-2031
16/20 points, Jancis Robinson, January 2026
2024 Gevrey-Chambertin @ £395 IB per 6x75
"En Champ and Combe du Dessus. A lighter crimson colour with rather a stylish bouquet, a mix of strawberry and raspberry. Some tension to the tannins, with a graphite touch. Lingers well on the palate."
89-92 points, Jasper Morris MW, inside Burgundy
2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux @ £815 IB per 6x75
"No whole bunch. No new oak.
Very pure and perfumed on the nose. Not at all stereotypical Gevrey but arguably stereotypical Jane Eyre. Very gentle and flattering but with sufficient freshness. Light but not unappealing green streak. Long. (JR)"
Drink 2027-2037
17/20 points, Jancis Robinson, January 2026
“0ne 350 litre barrel, not racked yet. 40% whole bunch with the main stalk cut out. A bright pale garnet to ruby. Very pleasing, delicate bouquet yet this is a wine with a tensile strength on the palate that belies the initial delicacy. A raspberry touch to the fruit. All about the finesse and the persistence. This will fill out more in bottle.”
Drink 2029-2034
92-93 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy, October 2025
“The 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux 1er Cru has a fragrant, perfumed bouquet with wilted rose petals infusing the red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, a little undergrowth in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, nicely structured with admirable mineralité for the vintage. Give this a couple of years in bottle.”
Drink 2028-2038
91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.com, January 2026
2023 Corton Grand Cru @ £885 IB per 6x75
“Fermented in wood. 70% whole bunch. Cask sample.
Mid, bright ruby. Perfume and volume! Quite sensuous and intense with zesty red cherry, redcurrant and cassis. Not a tannic hulk of a Corton, but firm structure nevertheless and good concentration, with fine, crisp acidity. All in balance with the depth of grand cru fruit. (MH)”

2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux
£750 IB per 6x75
"Medium plus red purple. 50% whole bunch vinification. One new and one one-year-old out of four barrels. This is full of fruit, and really lifted, caresses the palate, little alpine strawberries with a very long aftertaste. Tasted Dec 2024."
93 ****, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
"50% whole bunch. Cask sample.
Bright, clear mid ruby. Cracking nose of red cherry, raspberry and strawberry intermixed with spice. Great fragrance and elegance to the fruit. There are featherlight tannins and an excellent long finish."

2023 Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Vergelesses
£300 IB per 6x75
“The same supplier and vines since 2011. 15% whole bunch. Five barrels, 20% new oak. Tank sample.
Mid-pale ruby. Quite juicy red fruits with a touch of mint freshness on the ripe palate. Quite concentrated with savoury notes and spice on the finish. Busy.”
Drink 2028-2038
16.5+ points, Matthew Hayes, Jancisrobinson.com, November 2024
"Three barrels. Very pale in colour, yet magnificently fragrant. 20% whole bunch vinification only. This is really gorgeous in its light fragrant style, with the drier finish typical of a stemmy approach."

2022 Auxey-Duresses Les Crais
£205 IB per 6x75
Bottled in May, a new cuvee this year, high trained vines under lyre. 20% whole bunch, one new barrel out of 5. Middleweight purple. There is a sweet cherry elegance up front, more austerity behind, adequate acidity, and tannins which were able to ripen.
Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted: October 2023.
88 points, Jasper Morris
2022 Gevrey-Chambertin
£365 IB per 6x75
Made from Jane’s usual plots, with 30% whole bunches, one new barrel in five. A lighter crimson purple with the elegant strawberry touch of many a Gevrey-Chambertin, savoury at the back, with a firmness that the fruit can manage. Dark strawberry at the finish.
Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted: October 2023.
90-92 points, Jasper Morris
2020 Corton Grand Cru
£795 IB per 6x75
“The 2020 Corton Grand Cru is a blend of Bressandes, Perriere and Marechaude with 50% whole bunch. It has a wonderful bouquet, so pretty with sparkling red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, a touch of orange sorbet. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, taut and fresh, very precise with a mineral-driven finish. I doubt that a former hairdresser has ever made such a delicious and classy Corton. Just three barrels made.”
Drink 2024-2040
93-95 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.com December 2021
“A blend between a mix of Bressandes and Maréchaudes vinified together with 60% whole bunches, and a destemmed barrel of more structured Perrières. Rich deep imperial purple, a wealth of fruit, very nicely balanced, the crunchy whole bunch notes turn up at the back inside a ripe summer pudding array of black and red fruit. Lovely weight of fruit on the mid palate”
92-94 points, Jasper Morris MW
"Jane Eyre's classy Corton is a co-fermented blend of mostly Maréchaudes with Renardes and a little Bressandes. Spicy, muscular and focused, it's ripe and rich, but with lots of acidity, some lift and structure from 40% whole bunches, layers of bramble and wild strawberry fruit and the depth, grip and concentration to age beautifully in bottle."
95 points, Tim Atkin MW
2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux
£575 IB per 6x75
“Two barrels made with 50% whole bunch vinification and no new wood, the grapes coming from the upper part of Corbeaux adjacent to Mazis-Chambertin. Very intense purple with a richer bouquet, sweetly sensual rather than the more refined style of some Corbeaux, but with enough acidity behind to keep it on the straight and narrow. Minerals emerge to finish.”
90-93 points, Jasper Morris MW
“Charming, with violet-scented raspberry fruit and mineral notes. The texture is firmly tannic and fresh, yet approachable. A lovely success from this premier cru right next to Mazis, where Eyre sourced fruit for two (used) casks which she fermented as 60% whole clusters, removing the thickest part of the stem.”

2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux
£625 IB per 6x75
“Mid garnet. Heady mushrooms and violet nose. This is extraordinarily concentrated and tastes like a grand cru. Wow! Classic, top-quality red burgundy that's so vibrant, rich and yet elegant. Really rather thrilling. Perhaps the most exciting 2019 I have tasted in London.”

2019 Gevrey-Chambertin
£635 IB per 12x75
"Pretty deep crimson. Sumptuously sweet, spicy nose with lovely structure and great balance between sweetness and acidity. I'm really looking forward to the Gevrey Premier Cru Corbeaux now if it's to be better than this! There's quite a bit of fine tannin. Gosh, this is good!"

2019 Cotes de Nuits Villages
£470 IB per 12x75
"A blend of two parcels located halfway up the hillside in Comblanchien that Eyre has been producing since 2014. This year, the quality of the grapes allowed her to vinify with 40% whole bunch. 2,500 bottles and 250 magnums.
Voluptuous wine that will surely win friends, especially if sensibly priced. Beautiful freshness but not aggressive whole-bunch character. Lots of seductive (but not too sweet) fruit here. Positively velvety."

Australian-born, Jane’s career has seen her move from hairdresser to artisanal winemaker. In 1998, she was working as a hairdresser when she asked a customer, who happened to be the wife of wine writer Jeremy Oliver, if she knew of any wineries where she could do work experience. The Olivers recommended Burgundy, which has since been an inextricable part of Jane's life. “I fell in love with France, and Burgundy is just what I wanted to make.” After working vintages at Cullen in Margaret River, and Felton Road and Ata Rangi in New Zealand, she came to Burgundy in 2004 for a job with Domaine des Comtes Lafon. She then took over as assistant winemaker at Domaine Newman, and has slowly developed her own négociant business, renting a small space in a winery in Bligny-lès-Beaune with Dominique Lafon. She is achieving impressive results with Pinot Noir using a minimal intervention approach to winemaking and allowing her wines to express a true sense of place.
In the 2021 edition of Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France, Jane Eyre was awarded two stars, one of only 26 producers in the whole of France to be recognised at this level. Otherwise known as the ‘Guide Vert’ or Green Guide to the best French wines, Jane is also the only Australian producer to receive two stars for their wines, a phenomenal achievement for a relative newcomer to Burgundy.
